Other than EditReady being faster than Media Encoder (and way more intuitive to use), it seemed to strain my computer less during the encoding process than did Media Encoder. See Settings > Update and Security > Recovery > Reset this PC to re-install W10 without losing your files. I think W10 has an integrity checker/repair utility - google for it. Run System File Checker (sfc /scannow) to check the integrity of Windows and repair any errors. Could it be a service? Check TaskManager Services tab.
